Kim Scarsdale - CCC-SLP, lead therapist.
Kim is the founder and primary therapist of the Speech Spot, mobile speech therapy. The mobile business grew from a desire to make access to therapy services more convenient for the working, busy families of NW Arkansas. Kim is a licensed, ASHA certified speech language pathologist with over 15 years’ experience treating all speech, language, cognitive and swallowing problems. She has worked in hospitals (including the VA), skilled nursing facilities and schools. She is also a certified PESL accent modification method instructor, and is able to teach those that wish to improve their intelligibility through accent modification.
Kim has worked with children and adults of all ages, targeting various conditions including: speech, language, voice, swallowing, and neurological disorders. Kim enjoys meeting families and forging a plan to make each client's goals a reality. Kim believes that each child/adult is an individual with very specific skills and is focused on using strengths to overcome communication hurdles.
Kim is originally from Louisiana, has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology from Centenary College (graduating Magna Cum Laude) and a graduate degree in Communication Disorders from LSUHSC. She worked for many years in cardiac rehab before going back to school to pursue her advanced degree in Communication Disorders. She is licensed by the Arkansas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language and Audiology and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence and is an active member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.
Kim has a special interest in the factors that appear to influence our children's overall health and their communicative ability. As such, she is actively pursuing a certification as an Epidemic Answers Health Coach. This program studies the link between nutrition, our food sources and chronic disorders (autism, ADHD, allergies) that appear to increasingly impact children on a daily basis.
